There is always one thing that goes slightly awry at every wedding. Call it something going wrong if you will, but it's the imperfections in a wedding that make it special and memorable.

I arrived at the Orchard House a few hours before the ceremony began to see Jennifer looking radiant and excited. She was surrounded by her bridesmaids and slipping into her gorgeous gown. When Jennifer realized she had forgotten her wedding shoes at home, I thought that would be the one thing that went awry. I was wrong.

Jennifer and Danny dealt with everything from flooding to power outages to a cake slide on their wedding day. Their ceremony had to be delayed, their formal portraits adjusted because of family members trying to get a generator and their first sight was moved from a vast garden of loveliness to a foyer on the 2nd story of the house. If you weren't there, it would be easy to call their day disastrous. But their smiles never faded. The guests never complained. They never lost focus of what this day was really all about. Jennifer and Danny celebrated their love and commitment to each other that day and that took center stage. It was truly one of the most memorable and special weddings I have ever had the pleasure of photographing.

At this moment, it was pouring rain and pretty impossible to head outside. A huge thanks to Rebecca for helping me to move some furniture so we could make this first sight happen! Don't they look blissfully happy here?

The fan on the left was actually a Christmas tree topper. Fabulous, right?! I love the peacock theme going on here.

Jennifer, you are a STUNNING bride.

This next series might be my favorite of the day. Maybe because the light was so pretty. Maybe because you can't tell it was raining (it had died down to a sprinkle by that time). But probably because Jennifer and Danny are rockstars for going out into the rain before their ceremony for the picture. PS She got her shoes delivered, thank goodness. Aren't they so cute?

The amazing staff at Orchard House dried off as many chairs as they could and removed the rest so the family and guests could at least stand with their umbrellas and stay dry for the ceremony.

As soon as the bride started down the aisle, the music stopped. The guests realized that the generator had died from the rain and they didn't miss a beat. They hummed the wedding march for her as she walked down the aisle. It was an amazing and beautiful moment that I hope Jennifer and Danny never forget!

By the end of the ceremony, the rain...had stopped!!! The umbrellas came down and everyone celebrated in style with clapping and cheers as this sweet couple celebrated their first kiss as husband and wife.

The grounds were still very wet, but Jennifer wouldn't let that stop her from getting the pictures she wanted. I LOVE that she wasn't worried about her dress. Truly.

After all the formalities were over, the guests were ready to PARTY!

I photograph weddings almost every weekend. Most receptions include a garter and bouquet toss. So, when the garter retrieval started, I didn't give it a second thought. I'm so glad I positioned myself to get what happened next, though. Hilarious, Danny!!!

Jennifer thought it was pretty funny as well, obviously. ;)

I adore this shot that Rebecca caught of the happy couple. Pure joy.

Jennifer and Danny, you are rock stars. There were many ways you could have reacted during your wedding day, but none better and more admirable than the way you did. It was TRULY an honor!

Just a little over a week ago I met up with Hannah for her bridals. I typically assist my clients in finding just the right spots for their sessions but this was all Hannah's idea. I've got to admit I wasn't sure what the house we were shooting at would be like but once I walked in I was pumped to shoot there! Sometimes I just find a little surprise like 100 taxidermy animals in the man cave or some exquisite hand painted wallpaper in the dining room. Love these!

After Sarah and Josh's fabulous camping engagement session, I was so excited to shoot their wedding here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sarah and Josh are obviously head over heels for each other. Their wedding day choices were simple and elegant. An intimate 104 year old chapel and backyard reception were the perfect backdrop for this sweet day.

Sarah got ready at The Ballantyne Hotel. What a fabulous and luxurious way to start the day!

Sarah's adopted mom saw her in her dress for the first time and whispered in my direction "wow, she looks like she could be in a magazine". I agree! Sarah, you are stunning.

Sarah chose to have her two biological sisters in the wedding party. It was a very sweet gesture. They gazed at her all day with awe, respect and excitement.

Candice from The Beautiful Mess assisted me for the day and did a fabulous job as always! While I was taking pictures of the girls at the hotel, she traveled to Morning Star Lutheran Chapel to get a few shots of the guys practicing the sword arch ceremony.

There was a buzz in the air at the chapel before the ceremony started. Josh paced, checked his phone, and paced again. He wasn't nervous. He was just excited to be married!

There was a bet amongst the groomsmen. Would Josh cry when he saw his bride? Um, yes! This expression is why I continue to be a wedding photographer.

A sweet kiss at the end of the ceremony sealed the deal. Sarah and Josh are married!

When Sarah and I brainstormed together about ideas for their wedding party photos, I mentioned the idea of paying tribute to the famous photograph, the V-J day in Times Square . This is my interpretation of that beautiful piece of history.

Isn't this chapel gorgeous? I had no idea places like this existed in Charlotte!

After cocktail hour, Candice and I traveled to the backyard reception. The wedding party was introduced in high style with the sword arch once again.

I was very pleased to see Something Classic Catering . There food is always so yummy and that day was no different!

Halfway through the reception, Josh gave me a heads up that a surprise was coming. The guys replayed a scene from Top Gun for Sarah and everyone was cracking up. How fun!!

A sweet moment with Sarah and her biological family. What could be better?!

Instead of rushing through their guests and rows of sparklers, Sarah and Josh took there time and celebrated with all their cheering friends and family as they walked to their parting limo. It was one of the sweetest moments of the day!

Congratulations Sarah and Josh! You are a fantastic couple and were so fun to work with on your wedding day!

I am a planner. I make checklists. When I go on trips, I like having an itinerary. I even have back up plans for my original plans just in case. That's just who I am. And the funny thing is, no matter how much I plan, nothing is ever certain and things are always changing. In the end, I have to go with the flow.

When Shenita and Terrance decided to get married, they started planning things like every couple does. They booked their venue, booked their photographer, and even tackled the guest list. Surprisingly, another guest came into the picture, in a big way. When Shenita and Terrance found out they were having a baby, wedding plans changed. When Brent and I met up with the couple for their engagement session, we quickly learned that they had already tied the knot the day before we arrived! When I asked Shenita what the plans were for the day of the wedding day, she told me that it was going to be one big party! And it was!

Brent and I arrived at The Orchard House for Shenita and Terrance's celebration. We were greeted by Melissa and Emily who run the historic home set in the woods of Concord, NC. In fact, their family owns it and they were nice enough to give us a little history behind it. The grounds at the Orchard House were lovely and full of colorful details.

When Shenita arrived to get ready for the party, she looked so beautiful and her baby belly was adorable! Brent and I grabbed some shots of Shenita getting ready with her mom, sister and best friend. I couldn't wait for Terrance to see Shenita in her gown. I couldn't wait for the party to get started!

There was a lot of laughter in the room where the girls were getting ready.

I love this photo of Shenita with her mom.

While Shenita was getting ready in the Bridal room, Terrance hung out with guests in the parlor.

The variety of plants and flowers at The Orchard House are amazing. Not to mention the adorable personal touches the owners have included!

Shenita's bouquet was all white except for a beautiful pink orchid that was added in honor of the guest who switched things up--their baby girl (who will be here soon)!

Shenita and Terrance decided to have a first sight before the party started which I thought was wonderful. Terrance looked so cute waiting for his bride.

Shenita is all smiles! Is Terrance???

...I think so!

Love this!

The chocolate brown, turquoise, and white were great for the summer wedding. Thanks to Colleen Rett in Concord, NC for providing the details of the celebration!

In the words of the Michael Bennett, Shenita and Terrance's DJ, let's get this party started!

Love this ring shot! So crisp!

Shenita and Terrance, Brent and I had a wonderful time at your celebration and we wish you both (and your baby girl) the best! Much love to you both!

08.17.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rachel

The day after their fabulous wedding, Jessica and Jeff explored Bald Head Island with me for a few more images of just the two of them. The nervousness of wedding day had passed and what was left was two lovebirds, still buzzing over the excitement of the weekend's events. We started our session on the docks of the marsh for a little canoe trip. Jessica was a great sport when I told her she'd be getting in a canoe with her wedding dress! I have the greatest clients.

After a few minutes, I decided to put my money where my mouth was and hopped in with them for a few minutes. Many thanks to the couple's parents for holding the edge of the canoe from the dock while I snapped away!

Our next location was only a short golf cart ride away to North Bald Head Wynd, one of the main streets on the island. I love this canopied road, covered in moss and trees as old as the island. Bald Head Island is such a romantic getaway.

Jessica, you are stunning. STUNNING!

There is a section of the island with colorful houses and palm trees that I fell in love with while staying the weekend for the rehearsal dinner and wedding . I knew I had to take Jessica and Jeff here for at least a few shots. Don't you love the plantation shutters?

Jessica and Jeff were so wonderful the entire weekend. I am truly blessed to work with people who genuinely love each other and want to have a good time during their photos!

Congratulations one more time, Jessica and Jeff!
