If you missed my post from earlier this week "oranges + ladders" than click here to check it out before reading this one. That shoot correlates with this post so you'll want to see it first!
The Balcony On Dock has their Open House in January and it was a fantastic event. Jennifer from Salt Harbor designed the room as one full event. Nicki made an amazing cake to match and the Balcony's food even matched the theme! Our photos were also used throughout the event and they tied into the decor nicely!
The guests were serenaded by violinist Maura Kropke along with DJ Jason Tatum from Active Entertainment DJ who played some nice relaxing tunes throughout the day! |

| Nicki's cupcakes for sampling at the Open House! YUM!!! |

The furniture is provided by Harborside Event Rentals, they have such lovely piece for rent. A great addition to any wedding or party!
The image hanging between the chairs (right) was the biggest print we had made for the Open House and it was just perfectly dreamy for the space. LOVED it! |

| Thanks to Jill at the Balcony and the entire team that pitched in to make this Open House the best ever! |

Penny and Aric were married in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, at a quaint little church named Martha's Chapel. Their reception was held at the historic and beautiful Carolina Inn. It was an honor to photograph a fellow photographer's wedding! You can see her work here. When I arrived at Penny's bridal suite, I was immediately taken by the light in the room and how amazing Penny looked! Isn't she stunning?
|

| This little cutie patootie getting her hair done is Penny's maid of honor. Her entire bridal party was age 8 and under! |

A little hair touch-up for the mother of the bride and we were set to go!
|

| I adore the details in this quaint little chapel. |

| Amanda drove in from Wilmington to assist me on this one. I was so thankful to have her to catch the extra moments and little details - like this one of Penny's dad just moments before they walked down the aisle. Great shot, Amanda! |

| For having an entire bridal party of children, they were sooooo well behaved! Three of them were age 8 and the other three were just 3 years old. Not one of them cried, threw a fit, spoke during the ceremony - they were so grown up and fantastic! |

| I LOVE how Aric looks at Penny. I love love love it! He flashed that look at her over and over again during the ceremony. Ahhhh, love. |

Being a wedding photographer herself, Penny knew just how important it was to give us plenty of time for pictures and video in between the ceremony and reception. It was so great knowing she thought of just what we would need for the big day, plenty of time with the two of them!
|

Did I mention how well behaved her wedding party was? They're all so adorable! Kudos to Penny for joining them in the leaves for a quick shot....
|

| ...and then the real fun began. |

The details at the Carolina Inn were classic, simplistic, and beautiful.
|

| Just moments before the cutting of the cake, Aric whispered to me "do people still shove cake in each other's mouths or is that not ok?". I just had to laugh! I love that Aric was sweet enough to make sure it was something Penny would be OK with. I also love that he was ornery enough to think about it! Once Penny mentioned she'd be needing a napkin to clean up the mess, I knew it was going to happen. :) |

| The band talked Aric and Penny's brother up to the stage for a quick song. It was one of the highlights of the night and soooo funny! |

| At the end of the day, I pulled Penny and Aric out for a few shots in my favorite hallway of the Carolina Inn. Don't you just love the chandeliers? |

| Penny and Aric, thank you for having me! I wish you both the best in life and love together. |

Alicia and Neal are seriously one of the most genuinely sweet and loving couples that I've ever met. The past few months have been hard for them and their families, but it seems that it has only drawn them closer together and made them stronger as a couple. Their day was beautiful, to say the least.
The ceremony and reception were held at Neal's aunt and uncle's beautiful home! It was the perfect setting for an intimate and sweet wedding. |

Neal's boutonniere was one of my favorite touches, although I love most anything with peacock feathers, so maybe I'm a little biased.
|

When I arrived for the day, Neal and the boys were getting ready at Neal's parents' house. They were so much fun and you could just tell how excited they were for Neal to marry Alicia that day.
One of my favorite moments from their wedding was hearing Neal's dad talk about how happy he was to have Alicia joining their family. He kept saying that she was just the final piece to the puzzle and he couldn't be happier to have her as his daughter. And every word was as genuine as can be. |

| Alicia and Neal opted to do a "First Sight", which as I've said before, is maybe my favorite thing that a bride and groom can choose to do! And I really think that it was a fantastic decision for the two of them. I was standing across the yard, but I could hear Neal yelling how beautiful Alicia looked! It was a really fun moment to observe, and I think you can see his excitement in this next little series. |

| Alicia's short, sassy veil was stunning, and the way the wind was catching it here makes me smile! |

| You two are perhaps the cutest couple ever! I love when couples just let a moment happen - and this is exactly what this was! Neal just swept Alicia right off her feet. Perfection! |

| And all the beautiful ladies! Alicia's dress was completely amazing, and she even added a few touches of her own. She sewed in the lace around the neckline of her dress herself. It couldn't have been more perfect! |

This wedding party gets the award for best party ever! They were up for anything, and these girls didn't even flinch when I asked them to climb up into a rail car for this shot. You guys are AMAZING!
|

| A few more of the gorgeous couple... |

| A sweet, quiet moment between just the two of them. |

I adore the look on Alicia's face as she walks towards her very-soon-to-be husband! Radiant!
|

| The intimate ceremony included lots of laughter and joy, along with even a few tears. |

| Can't you just feel their joy here?! |

| Alicia and Neal, thank you for letting me be a part of your day. Your love for each other is brilliant, and I loved getting to see just a bit of it. I wish you all the best in everything you do! Congratulations! |

If you had ever told me that I would shoot a North Carolina wedding in the snow, I would have laughed at you! But the day before Erica and Evan's wedding, Raleigh saw it's first snow of the 2009-2010 winter, and thought it was just a few flakes here, up in Roxboro, it was a full four inches! It was interesting travel, but made for some really amazing and beautiful scenery! Nancy Ray made her way to town from the mountains of Boone to help me shoot the wedding, and it was a blast working with her!
The wedding took place at Rock of Ages Winery, which was AMAZINGLY beautiful in the snow! And when we saw the icicles hanging from the stairway, we knew that was our ring shot. You'd be surprised how long it took to get this shot with Nancy holding the icicle and a touchy macro lens in manual focus, both of our hands were shaking something awful by the time we were done. But it was so worth it - I LOVE the result! |

| Erica's mom told me that Erica has been planning her wedding ever since she knew that people got married. She had always wanted a wedding around Christmas time, and that is exactly what she got. I love this shot of her gorgeous bouquet up by the grape vines at the vineyard. But what really makes it for me? The icicles! |

| Erica and her girls had a great space for getting ready - enough room to spread out and do everything they needed to do. I love this shot Nancy grabbed of Erica putting the finishing touches on her makeup. |

| The gorgeous dress - lace, sparkes, and an open back - so amazing! And lots of friends helping get all those tiny buttons done! Erica, I think you look stunning here. |

| The guests were all seated and enjoying the warmth of the inside of the winery... |

| ... while Evan and his boys enjoyed a few laughs... |

| ...everyone just waiting for Erica and her father to walk in. |

| Doesn't her dad have the friendliest smile ever? He was so happy to have Evan join their family and see his daughter marry the man she loves! |

| There was a great balcony all the way around the ceremony space. Nancy took full advantage to get this shot of Erica being given away. |

| Rings! I love this moment - when there is a new ring on their fingers and they can't help but play with it. |

| This bridal party were such troopers! It was cold, and I mean FREEZING! But they handled it beautifully and didn't complain once! You guys rock! |

| I spoke with the owner of the winery before the ceremony started, and he showed me some amazing little secret spots in the "Employees Only" area, which he generously let us use! The Barrel Room was my favorite! The shadows on the back wall, the barrels with wine stains on the wood, and a gorgeous couple... I really can't ask for much more! |

Major props to Erica for walking through 4 inches of snow in her wedding dress and open toe sandals! She didn't even flinch when I told her we were going to walk across the lawn, through the snow to the spot for these pictures. She said, "It's just a dress. I'm only going to wear it once." I love love love that in a bride! I take every precaution to make sure that the dress doesn't get messy or dirty, but I love it when a bride is willing to take a little risk.
I love how they are all cuddled in together. And I think their smiles say it all - they have been waiting for this moment for so long, and it's finally here! So happy! |

| These next two images are some of my favorite from the day - with the icicles catching the light and the almost tangible love... |

| Can I just say that I love shooting in the snow?! |

| I love Erica and Evan's reactions to the toasts! That is pure joy all over their faces, and excitement to start their life together. |

| And then the party started! |

| Erica and Evan - congratulations on your marriage! I'm so happy for both of you! Thanks for letting us be a part of your day. |

It is always exciting to photograph weddings, but it becomes a little more personal when it comes to a family wedding. My cousin, Chance married the love of his life, Hunter earlier this year. We met up with Chance, Hunter and the families in Atlantic Beach, NC. The weather was stormy (enough that Brent and I went hunting for umbrellas before the wedding) and everyone was holding their breath that it would work out. God heard all of our prayers and the storms let up and allowed for an intimate beach wedding.
There are times, though not ideal, when we meet our brides and grooms for the first time on the wedding day. This situation was close to it. I had never met Hunter before the wedding day and I was excited to meet and welcome her into our family. I was also honored that she allowed us to play a key role in her day as well. Being responsible for important memories is a heavy task!
To Chance and Hunter, Thank you for letting us be your photographers. We are excited for both of you and we know that your life together will be wonderful. Hunter, we welcome you into our crazy family and hope you enjoy the ride. Love you! |

| Hunter and her Dad walking to the beach to meet Chance. I love Hunter's smile! |

| I can tell by the look on Chance's face that his eyes are focused on Hunter walking down the aisle. |

| And her eyes are fixed on him. |

| My Uncle Ricky (Chance's Dad) said a few words and a prayer as the ceremony started. The words were sweet and insightful for Chance and Hunter. |

| Hunter and Chance timed it just right so that the sun was setting while we took photos. So beautiful! |

| LOVE! Hunter has found her shelter. |

| After the wedding, everyone headed to the beach house for the reception. It was great to see my family and meet Hunter's on such a joyful occasion. |

| If anyone knows my family, they know that we love to kick back and have fun. There is always laughing, singing, and dancing when we get together. |

| Thanks again to Chance and Hunter for letting us be a part. We love you and hope to see you when we come up for a visit! |
