06.23.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rebecca

Christina and Joél are the kind of couple who just make you smile. Their love for each other is so visible, even when they're not in the same room. Just the mention of Joél's name, and Christina lights up. And he has a sparkle in his eye when he's thinking of her or talking about her.

As she was getting ready and we were talking about their day and about her husband-to-be, you could just see the excitement on her face.

For her wedding gift, Joél gave Christina this gorgeous pair of earrings. If you can't tell from the expression on her face, they were the perfect gift! She LOVED them, and couldn't stop looking at them with that same beautiful smile.

Getting the dress on always helps the day feel more real...

Same for the suit...

Just a quick note - the man standing behind Joél is his brother. He was the best man, and perhaps the best Best Man I've ever seen. He was there, every step of the way, making sure that every detail went perfectly for Joél and Christina. You could tell from his attentiveness that he really wanted their day to be flawless.

I love this shot Lindsey grabbed of the guys finishing up getting ready.

All ready to go. I think those brown suits were a great choice! The guys looked really sharp!

Jennifer at Salt Harbor is responsible for all the gorgeous florals. The perfect accent for the day!

Just a few of the beautiful details at Kenan Chapel.

See what I mean? Christina absolutely lights up when she sees Joél. Love is such a beautiful thing!

I love so many things about this shot - Joél's reaction to seeing Christina for the first time, the ring bearer straining to catch a glimpse, Christina's mom and bridesmaids beaming and so excited to see her, all the guests with their cameras, but too taken aback by her beauty to actually use them. All of these things come together in this one image to tell such a fun story.

Do you think he's excited to see his bride?

Another brilliant shot from Lindsey - the emotion from Joél's mom as she watches her son get married... it is just beautiful.

Oh I love these shots - the first reaction when they realize that all that planning and anticipation is finally over and they're married!

A fantastic ride in a Rolls Royce for the glowing bride...

On our way down to the reception at The Balcony on Dock, we made a little detour for some fun photos of just the two of them. I LOVED Christina's green shoes. Can you say pop of color??

Just a little walk a block away to this amazing little spot. Joél and Christina couldn't take their eyes off each other. Just how it should be.

How cute are they?!?

While I was hogging the couple for a few minutes, the guests were enjoying a beautiful cocktail hour. Lindsey headed there to snag a few shots of the details...

When the couple pulled up, everyone was really excited to see them!

And I think they were pretty excited too.

More beautiful details by Salt Harbor. The coffee beans in all these jars smelled heavenly as we walked in the door... not to mention that they looked stunning.

Escort cards in cigar boxes...

Beautiful details. I especially loved those chargers with the pattern along the outer rim. I want them for my house!

Can't you just see these three little girls dreaming of their own wedding day as they watch Joél and Christina's first dance?

Now, THAT's how you end a first dance!

This gorgeous cake was by Nicki's cakes...

This reception was one for the record books! These people know how to have fun and they all LOVE to dance! I don't think I've ever seen so many guests on the dance floor at one time. And this was serious dancing, too. Lots of salsa dancing!

They had the floor of The Balcony shaking with the music. So much fun!

Joél and Christina, congratulations! I'm so happy for the two of you, and so glad that I could be a part of your big day. We had so much fun!

06.23.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Millie

Light pouring in from the windows, soft peachy pink organza, nervous love, the busy buzz of chatter, zippers, and make-up...all of these beautiful things were happening the morning of Farren and Kevin's wedding. The more I heard about Farren's wedding, the more ecstatic I was to finally see everything come together...details are one of my absolutely favorite aspects of a wedding day- and Farren certainly did not overlook a single thing.

Farren's sweet personality and love for pretty things was apparent in all of the romantic touches she added into her wedding day...an intricate flower garden beaded into her veil, small organza flowers for her girls' hair, sweet treats, parasols, a lemonade stand & wish catchers...this was a beautiful day from start to finish.

Lindsey met up with myself & the girls at their hotel and hand-delivered a box full of organza flowers for all of the girls! It was a special gift from Farren to each bridesmaid, and a complete surprise too! I loved getting to see the looks on all of the girls' faces as Farren placed each piece in their hair.

These are the special kind of moments I cherish about wedding days...the little things you can't plan, but just happen- and it's perfect. Kevin showed up to the hotel room with a sweet letter to Farren, they talked for a bit while hiding in the doorways and then Kevin slipped the note under the door...

I love the look on Farren's face as she reads Kevin's last words to her before they say I do...

The light couldn't have been more perfect in Airlie Gardens...I love this little area we found for the girls to take pictures at while staying hidden away from the guys.

Look at those too-cute dresses!

Farren's bridesmaids were so great and so attentive to her every need!

Sunlight pouring over the ceremony, guests snapping pictures, Farren's veil blowing in the wind...LOVE! This has got to be the best ceremony spot I've seen for a wedding at Airlie yet... my favorite little spot nestled right on the intracoastal waterway!

Nancy Ray came along to help me capture the day. Thank you so much for all of your hard work Nancy, what fun we had!

Jennifer from Salt Harbor couldn't have done a better job with this sweet and romantic altar to match the feel of the day...it's simple, elegant, and the perfect addition to the garden ceremony site.

A lemonade stand to help cool off in the sweet, summer heat...

Farren rented all of these adorable vintage umbrellas online, genius!

Pine Valley Market served up fabulous food through the evening... it was delicious as always!

A little mix of me and Nancy grabbing all of the details...

While everyone was relaxing, drinking lemonades & root beer, and playing games at the reception site, I snuck Farren + Kevin away for some alone time in the gardens...

My favorite thing about long veils is when the wind catches them just right....

How adorable are these drawers of sweet treats for guests and mini streamers for bride & groom's exit? Absolute perfection.

No exaggeration when I say this table set up might be my favorite ever... Salt Harbor really knocked it out of the park and who would not love those beautiful wooden tables. To die for!

Grabbing these details was some FAST teamwork... we didn't have much time to snap them all before the guests took their places but we succeeded!

Fun games on the lawn...

There's nothing better than slow falling light during beautiful, summer weddings...

The detailing on this cake was exquisite and it was perfectly placed for the lighting! Nicki, thanks for another perfectly sweet cake... yum!

Steve Peterson from High Performance Lighting perfectly placed the italian wedding light throughout the tent. Once thing I promise you.... when I get married, there will be LOTS of Italian wedding lights!

This get-away car was fantastic! Gorgeous vintage detail, and even a few cute cans tied to ribbons on the back for the send-off!

I love this shot of Kevin helping his bride into their car...

...and all smiles as he drives away!

Congrats to you both, Farren + Kevin! Your day was romantic, beautiful, and full of perfect moments that I am so thrilled I got the chance to capture. Weddings like yours make me so in love with what I do every single day. Wishing you both the best in life and so much happiness!

06.20.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rachel

Catherine and Jon were married at a lovely resort in Greenville South Carolina. Everything about their wedding spoke of class and elegance and quite beauty. It called for rain all day, but Catherine and Jon were hoping it would hold off one more day. And it did. Everything worked out just as a modern fairytale should.

Catherine's makeup artist brought lip suckers for all the girls. What a cute idea, right? I liked the idea so much, I used it for an idea of my own!

The ceremony was held at the local golf resort, so of course we had to include a few golf balls in the guys' formals. 22 golf balls, to be exact. I didn't get this idea until the last minute. Renee, the fabulous former intern and even more fabulous 2nd shooter, ran across the golf course and filled her camera bag with golf balls for this shot. Thank you, Renee!!!

A few words of wisdom from father to daughter just moments before walking down the aisle.

If you are very observant, you've already noticed that we're missing a bridesmaid. One of these sweet girls was pregnant and the heat and excitement was a bit too much, so she didn't make it down the aisle. Thank goodness for her husband who was able to whisk her away for hydration!

Photography wasn't permitted during the ceremony, but it was a lovely one! Catherine, Jon and both of their families were grinning from ear to ear afterward!

The wedding reception was held in Catherine's parents' backyard. I've never seen a more beautifully decorated backyard wedding. The attention to detail was stunning. Remember when I mentioned that one of the bridesmaids didn't make it down the aisle? Catherine made a point to take a picture with that bridesmaid's flower (shown below), which proves how amazingly sweet and generous Catherine is to think of her at this time.

Don't you love how the wedding cake was decorated to resemble Catherine's dress? So simple, elegant and beautiful!

The band that night was from Atlanta and they were pretty amazing! This beautiful young woman sang Signed Sealed Delivered by Journey for a fun dance with Catherine and her brother. Everyone was on their feet!

The sparklers were on steroids. They were 3 feet long and lasted for 10 minutes each!

Catherine and Jon, you are such a sweet couple and I had a wonderful time photographing your wedding! Congratulations!!!

amy + matthew . raleigh, nc

06.16.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Rachel

Amy and Matthew were high school sweethearts. They've been together for nine years. Yes, nine years! You would think they had just met, after seeing how they interact with each other. Every touch is special. Every glance of the eye is like the first time. It was said more than once that day that they are the couple to model other relationships after. What an amazing compliment! It proves a few things. First, love is real. Second, Amy and Matthew are in love. Third, this very much in love couple is surrounded by very supportive and wonderful family and friends.

The day started at the Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Amy was radiant and her yellow shoes fit her personality - young, fun, fresh, happy.

Lindsey, our fabulous editor and album designer, assisted me for this wedding. While I was taking pictures of Amy getting her dress on, she took all the guys out and got this shot. Ah-mazing, Lindsey! I love all the shadows and light pouring in from different areas.

You might be wondering why I decided to have Lindsey shoot in a parking garage. Well, besides the fact that it is totally rad, it had poured rain the day before and the forecast was calling for even more that day. This was our backup location, but we got so lucky! It only rained that day while we were indoors. Every time we stepped outside to take a picture, it had stopped raining. What amazing luck!

"Did you know we've been together for nine years?" Amy said as I walked her to her first sight with Matthew. "I can't wait to see him!"

After a few minutes alone, Amy and Matthew walked around the town square with us to get a few couple shots. There was a cute little doughnut shop right by the hotel and I just couldn't resist.

Obviously Amy and Matthew couldn't either. ;)

There was also a little art museum on the same block. The clerk thought I was a little nuts when I asked if I could take a picture through the glass. I allowed him to think so so that I could get this shot.

I mentioned before that it poured rain the day before. Well, their first ceremony location was flooded. I was expecting this couple to be a little bummed at least. But they just wanted to be married. It didn't matter where or how it happened. It was enough to just be together. What an amazing testament!

The light in Caffe Luna was really beautiful that day.

Do you see that look?! They glanced at each other all day like that. Amy is the cutest little winker.

LOVE Amy's yellow sunglasses. LOVE them.

Proof positive that we have the best clients in the world. I asked Amy and Matthew to go into the kitchen for the shot on the right. The entire kitchen staff stared at them while they gave me the stone cold, sexy face. Yay for fun!!

Lindsey told me that this cutie pie couple told her that the thing they were most looking forward to on their wedding day was sitting down at this table for two so they could have a little date. I hope they enjoyed it!

Cheers to Amy and Matthew! It was an honor to be your wedding photographer!!!

06.10.10 ~ Weddings ~ posted by Brent & Amanda

Carly and Chris were recently married on a lovely, sunny day in downtown Wilmington, NC. The wedding and reception were held at The Balcony on Dock, a rustic little piece of Wilmington which includes old brick walls, big open windows and warm hardwoods. I met Carly while she was waiting for the ceremony to begin. When I first saw her, she was taking a moment with her family and friends to pray. Praying and thanking God for the day and the relationship that He helped cultivate. It was a sweet moment to witness and capture. Once the prayer ended, Carly looked up and flashed a smile full of excitement and happiness.

I smiled right back at her and in that moment I was reminded of the reason I photograph weddings.

The entire day was beautiful (even when the skies threatened rain earlier). The ceremony was sweet, intimate and full of love and support from family and friends. My favorite part of the entire day was capturing all the emotion of the day. The decor was classy and beautiful, but the laughs, tears and love were what warmed my heart. Thanks again to Carly and Chris for letting us be part of your day. It was a great day and we know there are many more great days ahead for you both!

Love the look on Chris' face as he sees Carly walking down the aisle. And I love the way the ring bearer is peeking over to catch a first glimpse too. So cute!

Carly's Dad was full of emotion as he watched his little girl marry the man of her dreams.

While walking downtown, we decided to stop along these beautiful garage doors. While shooting, Carly mentioned how much she loved garage doors and I thought, perfect!

One of Carly's favorite things about The Balcony on Dock are the balconies! So naturally, we had to whisk the couple outside for some alone time while they enjoyed the view of Wilmington around them.

One more moment alone and one more big smile before being announced into the reception.

Thanks to A Beautiful Event for the flowers and design! The greens and whites popped against the blacks and gave this wedding such a classic look. The cake created by Monique Kirby of Cowan Street Cakes and Confections was wonderfully designed to go along with Carly's look. Not only was it beautiful, but it was tasty too!

After a delicious dinner, everyone was ready to dance the night away. Everyone's smiles and expressions confirmed that all were having a wonderful time.

At the end of the night, friends and family gathered outside to wish Carly and Chris a bubbly farewell.

Thanks again to Carly and Chris! The wedding was great and we had so much fun!
